Department: Operations

 

 

 

Reports to: Terminal Manager

 

 

 

Status: Salaried – Exempt

 

Scope: Oversees the functions associated with the day-to-day vessel operations. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, bargaining and non-bargaining personnel staffing, and ensuring maximum customer satisfaction.

 

 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

 

 

    • Maintain direct client communication to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction.

 

    • Review, analyze, and submit production and cost reports to the Terminal Manager.

 

    • Work in unison and directly with colleagues, vendors, and other personnel to ensure maximum vessel productivity and ETS profitability.

 

    • Negotiate service contracts with new and existing customers.

 

    • Support marketing efforts to expand the ETS client base for marine services.

 

    • Inform Operations Labor Management (OLM) of any special stevedoring requirements.

 

    • Prepare annual Vessel Operations budget.

 

    • Liaison with the accounting department to ensure proper client billing.

 

    • Resolve labor disputes to avoid any work interruption or on-the-job actions

 

    • Purchase materials associated with and/or required for efficient vessel operations.

 

    • Negotiate vendor contracts on an as-needed basis.

 

    • Ensure vessel operations personnel are actively engaged in performing all duties and assignments safely and correctly; participate in all safety initiatives.

 

    • All other duties as assigned.

 

 

 

Reporting to this position are:

 

 

 

    • Operations Labor Managers

 

    • Assistant Marine Operations Manager (if applicable)

 

 

 

Qualification/Requirements:

 

 

 

    • Strong Leadership skills

 

    • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills

 

    • Ability to work and interact with all levels of management

 

    • Exceptional verbal and interpersonal communication skills

 

    • Effective negotiation skills, especially with bargaining unit personnel

 

 

 

 

 

Education/Training/ Experience

 

 

 

    • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or

 

Associate’s degree for Assistant Manager

 

    • Three to five years of management experience in all aspects of vessel operations or

 

Assistant Manager 2+ years of Superintendent or vessel operations experience

 

    • 5 to 8 years of experience in container terminal operations or

 

2+ years’ experience in container terminal operations

 

    • A combination of related training and experience may be considered equivalent to a degree
